La guitarra clásica, aunque goza de una larga y rica tradición, ha sido desde siempre un instrumento un tanto marginal. En su repertorio, si exceptuamos a Bach (que no componía para la guitarra sino para el laúd) brillan por su ausencia obras para guitarra de los Grandes Compositores que conforman el canon de la música clásica. Por otro lado, la mayor parte del repertorio que tocamos los guitarristas clásicos ha sido compuesta por guitarristas/compositores, que tienden a ser poco conocidos por el público general.
No obstante, hay un rico repertorio de música para guitarra que abarca desde el Renacimiento y pasa por el Barroco, el Clasicismo, el Romanticismo, el Nacionalismo y el siglo XX, cuando, sobre todo en la segunda mitad del siglo, el instrumento ganó por fin el caché que siempre se le habiá resistido. El resultado es un variadísimo y abundante cuerpo de música – principalmente para guitarra solista – que incluye una aportación realmente impresionante de America del Centro y del Sur. Escucha aquí
The classical guitar, even with its long, rich tradition, has always been somewhat of a marginal instrument. Except for Bach, (who wrote for the lute and not the guitar) there is precious little music from the ‘big name’ composers who make up the canon of classical music. And then there is the fact that most of the music that we classical guitarists play was written by guitarist/composers, who tend to be lesser known to the general public.
And yet there is a rich repertoire of classical guitar music ranging from the Rennaissance era to the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Nationalist periods and through the 20th century, when the guitar finally gained the respectability that was denied it for so long. As a result we have a varied and plentiful body of music – mostly for solo guitar – that includes a truly impressive contribution from Central and South American composers.
